Barbara J (Eakin) Gibson

Barbara J. Gibson, age 98, of Butler passed away Wednesday evening, May 7, 2025, at Concordia of Cranberry, in Mars.

Born November 20,1926 in Harrisville; she was the daughter of the late Kenneth F and Hazel N Morrison Eakin.

She was a member of the Harrisville Methodist Church.

Barbara graduated in 1944 from the Harrisville High School.  She then received her Bachelor in Nursing degree from the State Teacher’s College at Indiana, now known as IUP Indiana University of PA.  She began her career as a Pediatric Nurse at the Butler Memorial Hospital and later promoted to Head Nurse of the department.

After retirement from BMH, she worked as a Teacher’s Aide at Clarence Brown Education Center in Butler.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, bingo, cards, and volunteering at the Butler Meals on Wheels.  She traveled in the United States and abroad, and she enjoyed wintering in Florida.  She loved her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews like children, and she enjoyed spending time and getting ice cream with them.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews Susan (Rex) Brinker of Harmony, Eric (Zoe Pizor) Snyder of Harrisville, Sally (Joel) Daniels of Ohio, Judy (Rick) Mark of Ohio, Mark Eakin of Ohio; and many great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert “Hoot” Gibson, whom she married September 4,1953 and who passed away March 31,1996; her sister Sally Snyder who passed away in 1957; and her brother Keith Eakin who passed away in 2008.

Cremation services were entrusted to the Raisley Funeral Home and Cremation Services, pc., 387 Main Street, Prospect.
