Last surviving member of the John A. And Gertrude Kocher Bieber family of Lancaster Township, Butler County. Born there July 29, 1906
A retired schoolteacher, serving for 36 years as a rural teacher in one-room schools in Lancaster Township and as a remedial reading teacher in the Southwest Butler County School System, now Seneca Valley School District. During her professional career, she was a member of Alpha Sigma Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, International , a honor society for women teachers.
She attended Slippery Rock Normal School, (now Slippery Rock University of PA), Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana University of PA) and the University of Pittsburgh.
For many years she taught the Adult Sunday Church School Class at Zion Lutheran Church of Middle Lancaster, at Old Stone Church of Lancaster Township, and lastly at Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Prospect, where she was a member at her death.
She was the founder and leader of a Butler County 4-H Sewing Club (Stitch and Sew) in Lancaster Township and a member of the Senior Citizens Group of Prospect.
During her retirement she pursued her interest in genealogical research that resulted in four primary publications of family history: (1) Descendants of Heinrich Bieber and Anne Elizabeth Dueford, who were her paternal great, great, grandparents, who came to America in 1831 and purchased a farm in Lancaster Township (2) The Descendants of Jess Sipes Rice and Sarah Longacre Boyer, maternal great grandparents, whose parents came to Harmony, PA from Eastern PA at the time Abraham Ziegler purchased the holdings of Father Rapp in 1815 at Harmony, PA and (3) Our Roots in the Past, a research of the ancestors of both her and her husband's families from the time they reached America, and (4)The Descendants of John Double and Jane Bryan, who were her husband's paternal great grandparent and the pioneering settlers of the Butler County branch of the Double family at the beginning of the 19th century.
At her death she was a resident of Passavant Retirement Center, Zelienople, PA, having formerly reseide at 597 Dick Road in Connoquenessing Township.
She was preceded in death by her husband Russell L. Double, who died May 7, 1992, their son Robert John, who died June 24, 1953, a grandson, David Watt of New Castle, a sister Florence Boyd of West Liberty, and a brother, George Bieber of Harmony.
Surviving are three daughters and one son-on-law: Edythe Rape Burger, Prospect; Thelma Watt Guntrum, Butler; Lois M. And P. Dennis Roth, of Prospect.
Two half sisters and a half brother, Helen Brown of Daytona, FL, Naomi Shoeles of Butler, and John Bieber of Chicora.

Six Great Great Grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7-9PM Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at the Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main Street, Prospect. The funeral service will at 2:00PM Wednesday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Prospect, with the Rev. Gary Brown, Church Pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Middle Lancaster.
