Robert “Bob” Gerald Ferringer, age 88, of Butler, passed away May 27, 2023 at Fairview Manor Rehabilitation Center in Fairview, PA.
Born on August 6, 1934 in Franklin, PA; he was the son of the late Percy and Josephine Lawson Ferringer.
Bob graduated from Rocky Grove High School in 1952 and Grove City College in 1957. He was accepted and attended the Philadelphia School of Optometry for one year.
In 1997 he retired from the Wattsburg Area School District in Erie after teaching math for 40 years.
He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Union City, and then the Meridian Presbyterian Church in Butler.
He was previously a longtime resident of Union City where he once served as the Mayor. He belonged to the civil service, Juvenile Diversion Program, and the Gideons. In his younger years, he did volunteer work with the Cub and Boy Scouts of America, Jr Chamber of Commerce, the museum, and he coached little league baseball for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife Joan Gumpp Ferringer, who he married on June 10, 2017, four stepchildren Jim Raisley of Slippery Rock, Randy Raisley of Wexford, Carla (Jim) Osborne of Butler, Sherri (Reggie) Barnet of Meridian; four children from a previous marriage; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife Donna Holden Ferringer; two sisters Beulah Krepp and Jolene Miller; one grandson; and one daughter in law.
A remembrance service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 11am in the Meridian Presbyterian Church, 4150 N Highland Ave, Butler, with his pastor Rev. Stephen M. Franklin, officiating.
The family invites all attendees to join them for the luncheon in the church social hall following the service.
