Russell J. Barkley, Jr

Russell J. Barkley, Jr., age 67, of Portersville, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the Edison Manor in New Castle, following an illness.

Born March 30, 1955 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Russell and Afton LeViere Barkley, Sr.

Rusty was a 1973 graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood.

He worked at the Kerry Coal Mine up until an accident in June of 1986 that left him without the use of his legs.

He never allowed his disabilities to limit him, proving he was as able as any to accomplish ambitious undertakings and creative projects.  He was a God-fearing man, and an example of simplicity and determination.  He was an avid craftsman who enjoyed woodworking, working with leather, metal engraving, fabricating, and welding.

He is survived by his son Benjamin (Joanna) Ashley of Anderson, Indiana; 3 grandchildren Zeke, Zoe, and Emberlynn; his 2 sisters Sonia (Charles) Green of Portersville and Shelley Hogan of Beaver Falls; his cat Emma; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Rory Barkley, and his late wife Rita Barkley.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First Church of God in Ellwood City on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 11am.

Cremation services were entrusted to the Raisley Funeral Home and Cremation Servicers, 387 Main Street, Prospect, PA.
