Roberta McCandless Winner, age 96, of Butler, passed away peacefully Friday evening, July 22, 2016, at the Sunny View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born May 30, 1920 in Franklin, PA, she was the daughter of the late Irwin and Agnes Shunk Farringer.
She was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Prospect, where she was Clerk of Session for six years in the 1990's. She served as an elder for both the Mt. Chestnut and Prospect Presbyterian churches. She belonged to the Fellowship Sunday School Class at TPCP, the Tuesday Bible Study Group, and the Mt. Chestnut Senior Center.
Roberta retired after 13 years working for the Butler Memorial Hospital Dietary Department. She will be remembered as a faithful volunteer in the Pastoral Care and Hospital Auxiliary.
She enjoyed reading and watching Jeopardy, golf, the Pirates, and the Steelers.
She is survived by her son and daughter in law Richard A. and Judith McCandless of Butler, her two granddaughters Melissa McCandless of Butler and Megan (Kevin) Leitem of Fenelton, brothers Ray and Richard Farringer, sister Maxine Kersey, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Vincent L. McCandless, whom she married November 9, 1940, who passed away January 11, 1974; her second husband James R Winner, whom she married January 19, 1980, who passed away May 20, 1985, son Vincent Eugene McCandless, brother Irwin Farringer, Jr, and sister Ruth Keene.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 3pm to 6pm at the Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main Street, Prospect.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday, 11am, in The Presbyterian Church of Prospect, Church Street, Prospect, with Pastor Steve Cort and Pastor Jeffrey Curtis, co-officiating.
Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park Cemetery.
