Marian Martha (Katilavas) Rieder

Marian Martha Rieder, age 97, of North Hills, California, passed away Saturday February 27, 2016 at the Providence Tarzana Medical Center in California.

Born October 26, 1918 in Bridgeville, Pa, she was the daughter of the late Martin Lawrence and Marian Ann Lukosaiciute Katilavas.

She was Catholic.  She had two brothers she adored, Martin Anthony Katilavas of Greenville, PA who passed away in April of 1986 and Peter George Katilavas of Winnetka, CA who passed away in March 2005.

During her working years, she enjoyed working as a hostess, hotel dining room manager, bookkeeper, and fashion model at various cities, including Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Cleveland, New York, Miami, and Los Angeles.

Her hobbies were traveling with her late husband and going to the beach, and shopping with her niece Kristi.

She enjoyed taking weekend drives and visiting with family and friends and hosting dinner parties while her husband was still alive.  Family was very important to her, she was very generous with her time and her big heart and she helped take care of family members in need over the past several years. 

Marian also had a special place in her heart for animals, her 4 cats meant the world to her. Over the years she would rescue animals and  could often be found nurturing and bottle feeding orphaned kittens.  

She is survived by:

               Niece – Kristi Katilavas of Quartz Avenue, Winnetka, CA

               Nephew-in-law – Greg Ross of Quartz Avenue, Winnetka, CA

Marian was preceded in death by her husband Burnett G. Rieder, who passed away in June of 1994

Family and friends may call on Friday, March 4, 2016 from 2pm to 3pm in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at the Butler County Memorial Park, 380 Evans City Road, Butler, PA.  A Blessing Service will follow at 3pm in the Chapel, with Father Joseph Feltz, from St Christopher at the Lake Roman Catholic Church, officiating. Marian will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Butler County Memorial Park.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of the Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, Prospect, Pennsylvania.
